Facebook "Today In"

Facebook just recently announced that they are testing this new feature in Australia, which allows them to have local news alerts directly from Facebook. The Facebook Team's goal focuses on 'news deserts' as they may say, a terminology they came up with, simply a location where there is a low coverage of news/updates. What they have mentioned as well which will be typically covered topics/discussions/news on this "Today In" feature were city council meetings, weather, or crime as cited examples. Today In was already launched to 400 US cities and will hit it in Australia as a big launch.

The big question is, will the Facebook Team be targeting the Asia as well? Mostly of the countries in Asia no longer reads hard copy newspapers, well, not in the Philippines. Except for those who eats breakfast at popular fast food chains like Mcdonalds and/or Jollibee. Although most of them are our dear senior citizens, having the "Today In" feature on Facebook across all countries will have a big mark and will be useful tool because people now a days tend to just turn on their phone as soon as they wake up, checking news feed and scroll all the way down until you say "I think I already saw this post". This will incline local news awareness which, Facebook can be the means of it, which has probably been part of our lives ever since its popularity.

This is one of the best feature or should I say a module/tool, that Facebook ever came up with, that will help the netizens be aware of what's happening, either nearby, or across the whole world. Facebook is definitely stepping up the game.
